Is it safe to clean my smartphone with hand sanitizer?

We all use our phones, tablets, and smart watches daily, and sometimes we may not realize exactly how often we’re touching the display. Make sure you’re getting the best experience from your device by keeping it clean and sanitary.

How to sanitize your devices will be dependent upon on the specific materials used to manufacture the device. But to get your bearings here are some general guidelines to follow while sanitizing your devices.

1. Use only a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cloths, towels, paper towels, or similar items.
2. Avoid excessive wiping, which might cause damage.
3. Unplug all external power sources, devices, and cables.
4. Keep liquids away from the product, unless otherwise noted for specific products.
5. Don’t get moisture into any openings.
6. Don’t use aerosol sprays, bleaches, or abrasives.
7. Don’t spray cleaners directly onto the item.
8. To clean the speaker hole, headphone jack and USB port use a soft brush.
9. To clean the dirt that might accumulate around the SIM tray opening, use a soft lint-free cloth and place a very small amount of rubbing alcohol on it.

1. Your device might have fingerprint-resistant oil repellent oleophobic coating. Cleaning products and abrasive materials will diminish the coating and might scratch your device.
2. Don’t use window cleaners, household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, or abrasives
3. Accessories that are made of plastic, rubber, or leather may be damaged.
4. Do not clean the mic and receiver holes.
